Great Charlton Cake Off

On Sunday 24 June 2018, the Friends of Charlton Park were delighted to host the first ever Big Charlton Get together as part of Parksfest. Based at the Big Red Bus Club and the surrounds of Charlton Park, the family day hosted stalls from various local community organisations, including Charlton Community Gardens and the Friends of Charlton Park themselves.

Global Fusion Music were on hand to provide sizzling World Music for a scorching summer’s day, with tai chi demonstrations and even a Chinese dragon dance.

Over at the Big Red Bus Club the Clandestine Cake Club hosted the Great Charlton Cake Off. Now in its second year, we welcomed back celebrity judges Steve Kielty and Tony Rudd – both former finalists on MasterChef. With a sumptuous display of baked goods.

The cakes were then a delicious draw to the ensuing festivities, with Contact the Elderly helping to make possible a lunch for some of Charlton’s more mature residents, who were able to relax surrounded by playing children – a wonderful mixing of generations.

Thanks to all the groups involved and to everyone who stopped by the Friends of Charlton Park stall to say hallo and to contribute ideas of what we could do to improve the park. Thanks also to all the children who entered our competition to design a logo for the Friends. Watch this space…
